What I Want For 2023...

At the end of this year I am drawn to thinking about my homeopathy patients of 2022. When patients start homeopathy treatment they often have in their mind their obvious ailments. Part of my job is to be a kind of detective sleuth, making connections, digging down through the story to find the reasons for illness. But quite often the root of illness is unintentionally caused by the medications and other interventions that are supposed to be giving relief.

Now don't get me wrong... I am truly grateful for the existence of hospitals, doctors and drugs. The technology we have is amazing and the scientists, medics and nurses do a wonderful job, in quite often difficult circumstances.

However, our mainstream medical culture often only focuses on the snapshot of now without looking at the whole story that precedes that snapshot. Relief may come at the expense of the longer term health of the individual.

Especially this year I have been untangling the effects for my patients of hormone therapy (including HRT and the 'pill'), vaccinations (e.g. Covid), and antibiotics and a lot more. These can all have profound effects on the body systems, sometimes insidiously so that we don't realise the effects they have until we take a hard look at when our problems started.

I have been watching a revealing documentary on Netflix called 'Take Your Pills: Xanax'. This is a typical example of how overuse of a seemingly useful drug (Xanax is a benzodiazepine tranquilliser that can create addiction) can have devastating effects in the long term.

We all want a quick fix, nobody likes discomfort or pain.

But this brings me to what I want for 2023.

I want us to be inquisitive, curious, questioning around health and disease. I want us to be especially aware of ALL medications and interventions we accept. And remember 'side effects' are in fact poisoning effects. If a doctor says 'yes' to a drug for you and your gut is saying 'no', don't dismiss that feeling but take your time to ask pertinent questions.

Homeopathy can offer a complementary or alternative route and may be the best thing you ever did for yourself.

Finally...I wish all my patients - past, present and future- a truly wonderful 2023. Let's make it a really good one.
