🌀 The Many Paths of Homeopathy: Exploring the Different Schools of Thought

Man in suit stands before five identical doors, each marked by a large white arrow. Gray wall and floor; decision-making theme.

Homeopathy is often seen as one system, but those who dive deeper quickly discover a fascinating truth: homeopathy has many voices, approaches, and philosophies — all rooted in the same principle of “like cures like.”

As a homeopath, I find this diversity not only enriching but empowering. It means we can meet people where they are, and tailor our approach to their unique needs.

Here’s a quick look at some of the main schools of thought in homeopathy:

  1. Classical Homeopathy

The most widely practiced and traditionally recognized form. Classical homeopaths prescribe a single remedy at a time, carefully matched to the person’s mental, emotional, and physical state — just as Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, taught.

🔍 Focus: The whole person

🕰️ Dosing: Usually one remedy, given in intervals and watched for response

🎯 Goal: Stimulate the body’s healing with the most closely matching remedy

  1. Clinical or Condition-Based Homeopathy

This is a more modern and practical approach, often used in integrated healthcare settings. Remedies are selected based on the presenting complaint — for example, using Arnica for bruising, or Belladonna for a sudden fever.

💊 Focus: Specific symptoms or conditions

Great for: First aid, acute illnesses, or people new to homeopathy

🎯 Goal: Quick, effective relief using tried-and-true remedies

  1. Sensation Method (Rajan Sankaran and followers)

This method dives into the deepest level of experience, using body language, dreams, and recurring patterns to uncover a core sensation that helps reveal the remedy source — plant, animal, or mineral.

🌿🪨🐾 Focus: The vital sensation underlying a person’s entire experience

🎭 Process: Detailed case-taking, often very intuitive and expressive

🎯 Goal: Transformation and alignment at the soul level

  1. Miasmatic and Constitutional Homeopathy

Some homeopaths work within the miasm theory — patterns of inherited or chronic disease tendencies that affect a person’s susceptibility.

🧬 Focus: Deep patterns, family history, inherited weaknesses

🌀 Great for: Chronic or recurring illnesses, emotional blockages

🎯 Goal: Shift the underlying terrain, not just surface symptoms

  1. Polypharmacy and Complex Remedies

This approach involves using combinations of remedies in one formula. It’s more popular in over-the-counter preparations and among those who prefer a broader net.

⚗️ Focus: Covering multiple aspects of a condition at once

🎯 Goal: Symptom relief across a spectrum

📦 Common in: Homeopathic complexes for coughs, allergies, sleep, etc.

So… Which School is Right?

There’s no one “right” school of thought — because you are not like anyone else. Think of it as Appropriopathy

I am basically a classical homeopath, rooted in the traditional one-remedy approach, but I also embrace newer models such as those developed byRajan Sankaran and Jan Scholten. My practice is always patient-centred and non-dogmatic — I believe that by staying flexible and responsive to each individual, I get the best results.
